2012 Road Projects

January 27, 2012

The San Antonio Express-News ran an article in early January about the “Large Road Projects Mapped”. It was written by Vianna Davila and informs us of upcoming projects areas.

It seems many of the trouble areas are being addressed. Most of these projects will extend through 2012 and 2013. The article mentions the detours and traffic. To read the article visit http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/article/Major-road-projects-mapped-2439228.php

Easy Approach to Remodeling

January 20, 2012

Remodeling a home is a great investment when trying to sell your home. It can also be tricky and sometimes a disaster. To help with the tedious decisions there is now an app called Home 3D. This app will keep you from running back and forth to the home store. It gives exact measurements so there is no surplus or lack of materials and lets you see what your home would look like with the changes you are planning.

This app available for the Iphone and Ipad provides both room layout and interior design.
It’s a great way to share your plans, whether it be with your architect, handy man or friends. To download this app or read more about it visit http://home3dapp.com/.

Superb Steak in North Central San Antonio

December 29, 2011

Tucked in a corner at Alon Center on Military Drive is a wonderful steak house called Myron’s.  If the name sounds familiar it’s possible you’ve dined at their other location in New Braunfels.  Never having had the opportunity to visit their other location I wasn’t sure what to expect but I must say the overall experience was very good.

Probably my best advice is to order a steak- strange advice coming from a part-time vegan!  You probably think that’s obvious since it is a steak house but several of us chose to go against the grain and order fish.  Unfortunately two out of three of us were disappointed with the seared ahi and sea bass.  Those who ordered steak on the other hand spend the evening raving about their food!  My husband had the bone in rib-eye per the waiter’s suggestion and enjoyed every bite.  Two other favorites were the fresh spinach and the jalapeño mac and cheese.

Give them a try- I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

NOCC 5K

December 9, 2011

We participated this November in the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition 5k run/walk at Brackenridge Park. The weather was great and the turnout was even better. The purpose of this event is the early detection of ovarian cancer through awareness. Early detection, keeping the cancer from spreading from the ovaries improves chances of survival up to 90%. More than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease. There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer. Until there is a test, the key to early diagnosis is awareness of the symptoms. This year $49,000 was raised for continuing education and awareness. For a list of the symptoms visit this site http://www.ovarian.org/symptoms.php.NOCC Picture

Super Silo!

November 28, 2011

If you have been following my blog you know that I recently had a very bad experience with a newly opened local restaurant, an experience that was made worse by the lack of response by the owner when I sent a detailed email sharing the details of my dining misadventure. Well, I’m extremely happy to report that although I had a somewhat bad experience while dining at Silo recently the end result was just the opposite. It’s important you know my complaint involving Silo’s had nothing to do with the food or the service, both of which were excellent as usual, rather it was more an accounting issue. When I sent an email to the manager of Silo’s at 1604 explaining the situation his response arrived literally within seconds. Amazing! He was very apologetic and offered a solution which was very satisfactory to me allowing me to continue to be a Raving Fan of the restaurant. As a side note my team was quite relieved that I received a positive response since we have our much anticipated holiday dinner planned at Silo’s for the third year running- it’s a wonderful evening we look forward to each year. I think they were worried that I’d pick a vegan restaurant instead and they aren’t big fans of couscous!

Disappointment at Drew’s

November 14, 2011

Based on several earlier experiences at Drew’s American Grill I was hopeful north central San Antonio finally had a neighborhood eatery that offered good food, good service and an enjoyable atmosphere. That hope was dashed last Friday.
If you’ve been to Drew’s you have undoubtedly seen Drew- he’s a hands on owner and another reason I felt sure the quality would remain at a high level. Unfortunately I’m beginning to think his “hands on approach” is for show only and let me tell you why.
I won’t go into detail but let’s just say both my dining companion and I will not be returning to Drew’s anytime soon if ever. It took the waiter three times to get my order right (it was a simple salad) and he committed several mistakes with my friend’s order. In short it took over 20 minutes to deliver the correct food and never once did the waiter apologize for the inconvenience. Ironically a friend of mine was seated in the booth behind me and had the same terrible service.
It gets worse- I sent Drew an email that day nicely explaining the issues we had with our dining experience that day. Included in my email were the waiter’s name and a detailed accounting of the mistakes. Most owners we know want feedback, both good and bad, so they can ensure the quality of their product and correct any deficiencies they may have. I hoped Drew was such an owner but given the fact that I never received a response to my email I have to conclude Drew is a “hands on owner” only if you are lavishing praise.

Greenway Trails from 1604 to 410

November 11, 2011

With a span of 13 miles the Greenway Trails goes from 1604 to 410. The trail connects many parks providing easy access and parking. The trail shares a connection with UTSA and features a 300 foot bridge over Leon Creek. It is a great addition to our city.
